Florida Grand Opera The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet – $15,000.
This is the first presentation of this opera by Georges Bizet in over thirty (30) years. It is a challenging work for the few artists who can meet the vocal and dramatic requirements of this performance.

Ft. Lauderdale Int’l Film Festival FAB! Films for Kids $15,000.
A free series of movies for young audiences the first Saturday of each month featuring an eclectic mix of classics, foreign, documentary and vintage animation followed by questions and answers. A hands-on or performance related activity will be included.

Miami City Ballet Program II Broward 2008 Square Dance $15,000.
A breezy and rousing work of classicism tinged with the spirit of American square dancing, nine Sinatra Songs, Twyla Tharp’s ravishing response to the genius of Frank Sinarta and the Bourree Fantasque – Company premiere of Balanchine’s masterwork in the French classical manner.

Young at Art Children’s Museum Oh,Suess! Off to Great Places $15,000.
This exhibit encourages children to take an imaginative journey of self-discovery through the art making process. Artwork by Theodor Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, urges children to think outside the box.

Art and Culture Center of Hollywood Native Art Now $10,000.
An evocative, wide-ranging presentation of the work of contemporary Native American artists, featuring perspectives reflecting modern social and political tensions in a culture under pressure from within and without to honor tradition yet assimilate into the mainstream.

City Theatre Summer Shorts Festival 2008 $10,000.
This is a Mainstage and Family Festivals National Festival devoted to the production of original “short” one-act plays. Shorts for Kids will feature one act plays expressly designed to appeal to a diverse, multi-cultural young audience and their families and includes a free play reading of a series of scripts culled from City Theatre’s 1,200+ submissions as part of the National Ten-Minute Play Contest.

Concert Association of Florida 2007 – 2008 Premier Season at BCPA $13,000.
Eight events are featured, with four concerts by international touring symphony orchestras, two chamber orchestras, a quintet led by Pinchas Zukerman and a recital by Metropolitan opera star Angela Gheorghiu.
Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre Seussical the Musical $10,000. Included in the mainstage series of plays will be Seussical the Musical, a play in which all actors and technicians range in age from 6-18. All programs will nurture children’s artistic growth while developing creative and culturally responsible citizens.

Gold Coast Jazz Society 2008 Winter & Spring Season of Jazz $10,000. A series of classic traditional Jazz concerts featuring performers of international and national renown, as well as regional and local resident jazz musicians. Free pre-concert educational jazz talks provided by a local jazz radio host are offered prior to each mainstage concert.

Florida Youth Orchestra Spotlight Family Concert $10,000.
The 150 young musicians of the Florida Youth Orchestra provide community entertainment not commonly available to all segments of the population particularly senior citizens, individuals with special needs, and low income families. Spotlight Family Concerts bring classical music to a diverse audience.
Mosaic Theatre Making A Difference $10,000.
This repertoire includes dramatic and comedic works to challenge, teach, engage, and delight the audience. Tuesdays at Mosaic Reading Series will be a venue for playwrights to participate in a workshop.
Museum Of Art/Fort Lauderdale Future Retro: Drawings from the Great Age of American Automobiles $10,000. This exhibit focuses on the height of American automobile design as it flourished in the decades following World War II with beautifully rendered drawings and sculpted car models alongside actual vintage cars.
Symphony of the Americas Classics Events $10,000.
Five guest artist subscription performances feature an international guest artist for a one-week Broward residency including public & educational performances. Highlights include two outreach concerts at Weston Summerfest 2008 with Czech Moravian Virtuosi, an international orchestra in residence.

Grant Awards $1,500 – $8,000

Association of Performing Arts of India RajaRadha Reddy Dance Company $3,500.
The performance titled Layaalayam explores the aesthetics of rhythm within the rich Indian dance tradition.
Bailes Ferrer 2008 Concert Series Voces de Mujer $6,000.
An evening-length Flamenco concert with original score by Jose Luis Rodriquez featuring guest artists from Spain, Gema Corredera, Belen Maya, and Pastora Galvan. Other performances include choreographies set for the company by invited guest artists Belen Maya and Pastora Galvan.
Coral Springs Museum of Art Peter King ~ Gateway to Peace ~ Artist in Residence 2008 $8,000.
Peter King, a Florida artist, recognized internationally for his architectural ceramics, will create Gateway To Peace for the International Peace Garden. For forty-five days, the artist will work outside the Museum, where visitors and onlookers can stop by and ask questions.
Fantasy Theatre Factory Children’s Cultural Enrichment and Literacy Programs $2,000
Forty quality theatre experiences for children and families throughout Broward County, serving 15,000 children from all demographics, will be performed. The program will include literature and ecology based performances that support Sunshine State Standards for Reading and Science.
Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus “Sneak Preview” June 20, 2008 Spring Concert $1,500
This preview will build community through quality musical performances promoting a world that accepts and values diversity. Clients of AIDS Service Agencies and other minority groups will be admitted free of charge.
