Sung in French, Lakmé is an Oriental tale of romance, mysticism, and deceit set in 19th century India. The Flower Duet, one of the most familiar classical tunes ever written, has been heard in movies, TV shows, elevators, and now it is a popular cell phone ringtone. Lakmé can be understood and enjoyed by audiences of all ages, demographic backgrounds and operatic knowledge.

The choreography, music and stylistic choices of Program II offer Broward audiences the unique opportunity to view works by dance’s most celebrated artists, as performed by one of the nation’s top ballet companies. The program includes: Paul Taylor’s Mercuric Tidings, Edward Villella’s “THE MAMBO: Mambo No. 2 a.m.”, and George Balanchine’s Ballet Imperial.

Young at Art The Art of Andy Warhol $15,000.
Pop Art exhibition in collaboration with the Warhol Foundation and Museum. Through original prints featuring myths including the Wicked Witch, Mickey Mouse and Superman, children will be exposed to Warhol’s artistry and taught to make their own prints in the printmaking studio.

Festival devoted to the production of original “short” one-act plays. Romero Britto will work with a few Advanced Placement students from 6 local high schools to create a mural in the theme of “Visual and Performing Arts”. The painted mural will be permanently displayed in the lobby gallery of the Coral Springs Museum of Art.
Fantasy Theatre Factory Children’s Cultural Enrichment and Literacy Programs $10,000.
Will provide 10 quality theatre experiences for children and families throughout Broward County, serving 15,000 demographically diverse children . The program materials include literature and ecology based performances, that support Sunshine State Standards for Reading and Science.
Florida Youth Orchestra Spotlight Family Concert $10,000.
The 150 young musicians of the Florida Youth Orchestra provide community entertainment not commonly available to all segments of the population particularly senior citizens, individuals with special needs, and low income families. Spotlight Family Concerts bring classical music to a diverse audience.

Arts Ballet Theatre will stage a world premiere production of the “lost ballet” Fairy Doll with original choreography by Vladimir Issaev. This important classical ballet appeals to the entire family, especially children, and teaches the timeless values of honoring diversity and working together.
Inside Out Theatre Company Main Stage 2009 Season $8,000.
There will be two plays in 2009 which have been chosen for their timely themes and their ability to inspire and motivate audiences to ask questions about our society and the ways in which we live.
The Women’s Theatre Project The Interview by Faye Sholiton $8,000.
Tells the story of a Holocaust survivor who lost virtually everyone she has ever loved. As she relates her story for video archive so that the next generation might learn from her experience, she begins to see her life and survival for what they are: a blessing.
Association of Performing Arts of India Shaki Dance Company $3,000.
The story of the hero, Rama, from his birth to his coronation is portrayed using world dance forms, Hindustani and Carnatic music, elaborate sets and specially designed costumes.
