SUMMARY:FAB Grantee Program: FLIFF Presents: Sharks
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS: A thief on the verge of self-ruin gets his life thrown upside down when his paths cross with a professional organization. ‘Sharks’ is a black-and-white neo-noir drama-thriller about a man on the margins of society who becomes ensnared in a criminal underworld. What begins as petty theft spirals into a deadly moral unraveling. \n\nDirector Biography – Elias Holgersson\nHaving nurtured a fascination with storytelling since early childhood and making his first short films in his pre-teen years\, Elias Holgersson now makes his feature debut with ‘Sharks’ – a stark\, black-and-white neo-noir drama-thriller. \nDirector Statement\n“I wanted to explore — and better understand — the ‘very thin and easily crossed line’ between one’s ethical-moral compass and the lure of personal ambition\, which can ultimately lead to self-destruction. How easily do we actually abandon our values at the mere taste — or even passing thought — of how much greener the grass might seem on the other side? \nI’m also drawn to the raw concept of ‘East’ & poor and ‘West’ & rich\, in a broader\, societal (worldly\, if you will) context. Words like ‘economic welfare’ and ‘status’ often shape our behavior more than we’d like to admit — and certainly more than we’re willing to confront. \nShot in a stark\, black-and-white noir style and rooted in psychological tension and moral ambiguity\, ‘Sharks’ reflects my interest in outsiders\, systems of control\, and the quiet violence of desperation.” \n  \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 NE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 33301\nWhen:\nFriday\, April 10\, 2026 at 5:30pm\nThursday\, April 16\, 2026 at 7:30pm\nCost:\n$10-$12\nTickets: \nTicket prices vary. SUMMARY:FAB Grantee Program: FLIFF Presents: The Spell of Forever
DESCRIPTION:After losing her parents in an earthquake\, 6-year-old Jiaying established a deep relationship with her “grandma” in the new family.\, when she learned that the old lady was illiterate\, \,she began teaching her how to write. and they became best friends. \nAfter a warm period of time\, she suddenly learned that her grandma had cancer and was dying. Besides\, she learned a crueler truth that not only her grandma\, but everyone would die and leave her. \nJust as the pain in her heart could not be relieved she was inspired by the classical Chinese fairy tale “Adventures of Monkey King”. and embarked on a journey to find the mythical “Forever Fruit” for her grandmother. \nDirector Biography\nRyan ZHENG is a director and editor born in Tangshan\, China. \n\nOriginally dreaming of becoming a scientist to explore the world’s mysteries\, then he was ultimately drawn to the magic of cinema and pursued a career in filmmaking. As an editor\, he has worked with renowned directors like Gu Changwei on several acclaimed productions\, such as Changwei Gu <life is a miracle> 2011\, (starring Zhang Ziyi and Aaron Kwok). \nThis film is his first feature-length project as both writer and director. Choosing to set the story in his hometown\, he weaves his own coming-of-age experiences into a narrative that feels deeply personal yet universally resonant. \nZheng’s works carry profound philosophical contemplation through nuanced realist storytelling\, refracting grand humanistic concerns through intimate narratives. His cinema represents the aesthetic aspirations of China’s new generation of filmmakers. \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 SE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 3301\nWhen:\nSaturday\, April 11\, 2026 at 1:00pm\nThursday\, April 16\, 2026 at 5:30pm\nCost:\n$9-$12\nTickets:\nTicket prices vary. Her life swings between terror\, loneliness\, uncertainty\, and outbursts—yet also love\, complicity\, hope\, and fleeting freedom. After a tragic event\, Malika considers placing Adam in a specialized facility. He and Adam bond instantly\, communicating not with words but with their souls. They grow inseparable\, sharing wild adventures. But their closeness soon becomes unsettling\, and Malika\, uneasy with this new friendship\, finally asks Mahmoud to stay away from her son. \n\nDirector Biography – Jerome Cohen-Olivar\nHe spent most of his childhood in Morocco where he shot small horror films (LITTLE HORROR MOVIE) in Super 8MM before leaving for Los Angeles. He studied college at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and later at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. \nHer first short film SUSAN SUSAN\, a satire about illegal immigration to the United States\, was bought by Disney. He produced his first feature film\, UNVEILED. The film was not as successful as expected in cinemas but sold well on video. COOL CRIME\, a bitter comedy about a gang of ghosts wandering in Los Angeles opens the PALM SPRINGS festival and allows the director to sign with the artistic agency CCA. In 2008\, the director signs KANDISHA\, a fantasy film inspired by a Moroccan legend AISHA KANDISHA dating from the nineteenth century\, the film becomes cult. In 2014\, OREN PELI\, the filmmaker \nbehind planetary success PARANORMAL ACTIVITY optionne LITTLE HORROR MOVIE. Not supporting the famous DEVELOPMENT HELL. Jerome decides to recover his script and produce it himself. Jérôme is currently working on several projects including the highly anticipated AUTISTO \nDirector Statement\nThe film “AUTISTO” directed by Jérôme Cohen-Olivar presents several interesting perspectives including the Exploration of new narrative and visual horizons especially as Morocco offers a picturesque and diverse setting. This provides a visually captivating backdrop for the film’s history\, which can enrich the cinematic experience and offer new narrative possibilities. \nAUTISTO is also embarking on Autism Awareness in a different cultural context: Locating the film in Morocco would explore the specific challenges and opportunities faced by people with autism in that country or in other similar cultural contexts. This could help raise awareness of autism in a way that takes into account cultural nuances and local realities. However\, there is also International Collaboration and Cultural Exchange: Making a film in Morocco usually involves collaboration with Moroccan film professionals\, which can promote the exchange of ideas\, techniques and experiences between international and local production teams. This can enrich the creative process and result in a more diverse and authentic end product. \nTourism and Local Film Industry Promotion: Shooting a film in Morocco can also help promote tourism in the country by showcasing its natural and cultural attractions. In addition\, it can boost the local film industry by providing employment opportunities and \ndrawing attention to the talent and resources available in the country. Not to mention increased international visibility: If the film is well received\, it could benefit from increased international visibility due to its location in Morocco and the country’s growing reputation as an attractive location for international film productions. \n  \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 SE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 33301\nWhen: \nTuesday\, April 7\, 2026 at 7:30pm\nSunday\, April 12\, 2026 at 2:00pm\nCost:   \n$9-$12\nTickets:\nTicket prices vary. SUMMARY:FAB Grantee Program: FLIFF Presents: Aftershocks
DESCRIPTION:Chile / 2025 / Spanish w/English subtitles / 88 min / Drama\, Mystery\, Suspense \nDirector\, Writer: Diego González;  Writer: María Paz Gonzalez; Producers: Sergio Karmy.\nKey Cast: Julio Jung\, Francisca Lewin . \nAfter a powerful earthquake\, Catalina returns to her old family home to help her father\, Domingo\, sell the property following the sudden death of her uncle Héctor. Between them unfolds a space of mourning and reconciliation\, marked by unresolved guilt and inherited silences. In their forced coexistence\, cracks begin to reveal the shadow of Héctor —an absent figure who never truly left. Replicas is a drama of mystery and memory\, where both seismic and human aftershocks threaten to bring down what little still stands. \n\nDirector Biography – Diego Gonzalez\nHe was born in Santiago\, Chile\, in 1981. He began making short films during his university years\, participating in Chilean and international festivals. He studied film at the Escuela de Cine de Chile and attended screenwriting seminars with Robert McKee and Patricio Guzmán\, among others. He has also taught film appreciation and is currently promoting his feature film Replicas (2025). \nDirector Statement\nChile\, one of the most seismically active countries in the world\, lives with a constant awareness of instability. That physical fragility has become part of our emotional identity. In Aftershocks\, this geographic condition symbolizes what we believe to be solid\, yet when shaken over and over\, it exposes what cannot be erased: the fractures that remain beneath the surface. \nIn this film\, I wanted to explore fatherhood\, grief\, guilt\, and shame as telluric forces that stir memory. Catalina and Domingo\, daughter and father\, confront what has been left unsaid —the dead\, the memories\, and the secrets that continue to shift within both their inner worlds and the physical space they inhabit. SUMMARY:FAB Grantee Program: FLIFF Presents: Aftershocks
DESCRIPTION:After a powerful earthquake\, Catalina returns to her old family home to help her father\, Domingo\, sell the property following the sudden death of her uncle Héctor. The house where the story unfolds is a living organism\, a capsule of time that holds within its walls the vibration of what is no longer visible\, yet inevitably rises from its hiding place. \nThe film’s visual language privileges observation and restraint. With a camera guided by precise movements and a contemplative rhythm\, Aftershocks evokes classical cinema —the stillness before the quake. Its autumnal light and suspended spaces invite reflection on how we inhabit our losses\, and how\, in Chile\, even when everything seems stable\, the ground —and memory itself— never truly stops moving. \n  \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 SE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 33301\nWhen:\nTuesday\, April 7\, 2026 at 5:30pm\nSunday\, April 12\, 2026 at 4:15pm\nCost:\n$10-$12\nTickets:\nTicket Prices Vary Click Here to Purchase with FLIFF \nChile / 2025 / Spanish w/English subtitles / 88 min / Drama\, Mystery\, Suspense \nDirector\, Writer: Diego González;  Writer: María Paz Gonzalez; Producers: Sergio Karmy.\nKey Cast: Julio Jung\, Francisca Lewin .

SUMMARY:FAB Grantee Program: FLIFF Presents: Waiting for Guffman
DESCRIPTION:The Broward County Film Society and The New City Players presents Christopher Guests’ outrageous mockumentary “Waiting for Guffman” The evening starts with light refreshments at 6pm followed by the film at 7pm. After the film\, join us for a maybe-not-so-serious panel discussion: “We’re Not in Blaine\, Missouri Anymore“. Corky had his vision. The New City Players have theirs. Let’s talk about what making theatre in our community actually looks like. \nAbout the film – Actor/writer/director Corky St Clair has moved from NY to the small town of Blaine\, Missouri and written an epic masterpiece called “Red\,white and Blaine” for the celebrations marking the sesquicentennial anniversary (that’s the 150) of the founding of Blaine. The amateur cast includes a dentist\, two travel agents\, a car mechanic and a fast food chain employee who all dream of fame and fortune. Corky writes to various producers and Mr. Mort Guffman will come to the one and only performance and decide whether it will make it to Broadway. \nAbout New City Players: New City Players is a professional\, ensemble-based nonprofit theatre company in Fort Lauderdale\, Florida. Their mission is to stage transformative classic\, contemporary\, and original works of live theatre that explore the complexity and diversity of the human experience\, create space for authentic dialogue\, and connect South Florida audiences and artists. \nAbout FAB: Reel Connections is a Broward County Film Society program that invites the community to experience film through the perspectives of South Florida’s diverse cultural and community organizations. Throughout 2026\, the Film Society partners with local groups to present films reflecting each organization’s mission\, heritage\, or creative focus. Each event begins with a free screening at Savor Cinema or other community venues with light refreshments. Following the film\, the partner organization adds a discussion\, presentation\, or performance to deepen the experience. FAB: Reel Connections uses film to connect cultures\, ideas\, and communities across Broward County and South Florida. \nEvent includes a Reception and Panel Discussion. \nWhere:\nSavor Cinema\n503 SE 6th Street\nFort Lauderdale\, FL 33301\nWhen:\nMonday\, April 13\, 2026 at 6:00pm\nCost:\nFree Event\nTickets:\nCLICK HERE to claim your tickets with FLIFF
