Music

Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and Winners Concert $6,000 Ars Flores will present gifted high school and college students from South Florida in the 13th Annual Young Artists Concerto Competition and Winners Concert. The musicians will compete and give three performances open to the public including a free Music for Munchkins Concert at the Miniaci Performing Arts Center at NSU.
Association of Performing Arts of India Spiritual Sound of Violin $5,000 APAI is hosting a musical performance of “Violin” (fretless lute) performed by international musician Kala Ramnath, demonstrating a spiritual music tradition from India. There will be 1 performance at the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center.
Broward Performing Arts Foundation Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra $10,000 The Broward Performing Arts Foundation presents the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Russia’s oldest symphonic ensemble, as part of its Classical Series. There will be 1 performance at the Au-Rene Theater.Funding Partner: Helen Ingham Foundation
Florida Grand Opera Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco $10,000 Florida Grand Opera presents “Nabucco”, Verdi’s monumental work in the Italian Grand Opera style. There will be two performances at the Broward Center for Performing Arts Au-Rene Theater.Funding Partner: Craig Zinn Automotive
Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir FSSB Spring Concert $7,500 Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir will present their Spring Concert at the Parker Playhouse culminating months of intensive music education with approximately 200 boys in 4 choirs.
Florida Youth Orchestra 2014 Spotlight Family Concert $8,000 Florida Youth Orchestra, resident youth orchestra of Nova Southeastern University, will present 1 concert at Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Approximately 200 children through age 19 will perform under the direction of prominent local musicians.Funding Partner: The Burwick-Mills Group
The Girl Choir of South Florida Sound Sense $7,500 Girl Choir of South Florida will present 2 concerts called “Sound Sense”, which will include choreography and lighting effects as well as music. One of the concerts, performed by all of the choirs, will be at the Amaturo Theater in the Broward Center for Performing Arts. A second performance featuring the older girls will be given at a local church.
Gold Coast Jazz Society 2014 Winter/Spring Jazz Project $8,000 Gold Coast Jazz Society will present 3 jazz concerts at the Amaturo Theater in the Broward Center for Performing Arts and 6 free jazz outreach activities including 3 free public jazz concerts in Coral Springs, Sunrise and the Northwest Regional Public Library and 3 free jam sessions.Funding Partner: Alice and Joe Smith
Master Chorale of South Florida Songs of War and Peace $7,500 Master Chorale of South Florida’s 110 members will perform “Songs of War and Peace,” accompanied by the South Florida Symphony and nationally acclaimed soloists. The concert will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach. (“Pink Church”)
Old Dillard Foundation 2014 Cannonball Jazz Series $7,000 Old Dillard Foundation will present a jazz series which will include 3 mini-concerts in the auditorium at the Old Dillard Museum and 1 full concert celebrating the birthday of the late jazz musician Julian “ Cannonball” Adderley. The concerts will feature local musicians.
Seraphic Fire 2014 Broward Season $10,000 Seraphic Fire, Miami’s professional chamber choir, with the Firebird Chamber Orchestra, will present 5 concerts of under-performed choral and orchestral works spanning 17th Century Baroque compositions to 20th Century pieces. The concerts will be performed at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale.
Symphony of the Americas Classics Events $12,000 Symphony of Americas will present 5 Guest Artist Subscription Performances in 2014 and performances of Summerfest 2014 in Broward County. Each subscription performance is held in the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for Performing Arts and features an international guest artist for one week Broward residency in public and educational performances.Funding Partner: Beaux Arts

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida The Rite of Spring $6,000 Arts Ballet Theater of Florida will choreograph and present an original ballet of Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” at 2 performances at the Amaturo Theater, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the piece.Funding Partner: BBX Captial, Dara and Jarett Levan
Miami City Ballet Nacho Duato’s Jardi Tancat $9,500 Miami City Ballet presents its Broward premiere of “Jardi Tancat” (“Closed Garden”) at a minimum of 3 performances at the Broward Center. This modern piece portrays the great human spirit of a people working a barren land.Funding Partner: Nova Southeastern University

Theater

Fantasy Theatre Factory Cultural Arts Program for Community Audiences $8,000 Fantasy Theatre’s Cultural Arts for Community Audiences – FTF will provide 35 performances for family audiences in 25 community venues throughout Broward County, including Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. These will be free of charge and reach an audience of 5000+ children.Funding Partner: David and Francie Horvitz Family Foundation
Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre Through the Looking Glass $8,000 FLCT will present 3 public performances of “Through the Looking Glass” at Bailey Hall, on BCC in Davie.Funding Partner: Northern Trust
The Women’s Theatre Project Girl Play, 5th Annual Lesbian Reading Festival $2,000 Girl Play Lesbian Play Reading Festival consists of 16 original short plays celebrating lesbian themes, selected from worldwide submissions, presented by local professional actors, then voted on by the audiences for Best of the Fest and Audience Favorite.

Visual Arts

Art and Culture Center of Hollywood Augustina Woodgate: The Skin Rug Collection $11,000 The Skin Rug Collection is an interactive exhibition of mixed-media works by Augustine Woodgate that incorporates recycled stuffed animals into large-scale rug mosaics displayed on the floor. Broward County Film Society/FLIFF Classic Hollywood Exposed $3,500 Classic Hollywood EXPOSED! Take 2 will have six presentations taking place on the second Sunday of each month, presenting 12 Classic American Films including an introduction and a post-film Q&A lead by Robert Davis.
Coral Springs Museum of Art 2014 Saturday Chautauqua : A Community Arts Infusion $8,000 Chautauqua, the infusion of culture and entertainment into the heart of the community, comes to life in CSMART’s 2014 Saturday Chautauqua Series. Performances by a kaleidoscope of Broward artists will immerse families in a series of musical and cultural experiences.Funding Partner: Henry E. Haller Foundation
Girls’ Club TM Sisters Curated Exhibition and Related Programs $8,000 Multi-media artist/curator team TM Sisters will create an exhibition that will include interior/exterior projections and installations of contemporary art providing a new context for wall-mounted works and feature creative print and online publications.Funding Partner: William and Mildred Lasdon Foundation
Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale William J. Glackens Survey Exhibition $11,000 The first comprehensive museum survey of the artist William J. Glackens’ work since 1966, the exhibition will bring together over 100 of his most important works from nearly 50 of America’s finest private and public collections.Funding Partner: Casa D’Angelo Ristorante
Young At Art Children’s Museum YAA Artist Collaborative $12,000 YAA will present the 2014 YAA Artist Collaborative for children and families, allowing artists to share their creative energies through pop-up installations, lectures, demonstrations and guest appearances thus challenging the community to discover their own relationships with art.Funding Partner: Peck Foundation
