Funding Arts Broward (FAB) was founded in 2003 by local artist and philanthropist Francie Bishop Good to increase private funding for arts groups serving Broward County. It is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. It is a membership organization. Over the past two decades, FAB has provided more than $5 million in grants to local arts organizations.
It is simple to become a member. Fill out a membership form that is available on this website, call (954) 353-7673, or email FAB info@fundingartsbroward.org.
Membership dues are paid annually; the month in which you join FAB is your renewal date. Your dues contribution is tax deductible in accordance with IRS guidelines. Individual membership is $1,500 a year; couples $2,250 a year. Corporate partnerships are also available to businesses at various levels.
80% of the revenue from membership dues goes directly to local arts and arts education programs in the community. The balance funds grant administration and FAB operations expenses as a nonprofit organization.
Using membership support, FAB has an annual grantmaking process that is open to arts organizations serving Broward County. Members are eligible to be part of the grants screening process. FAB also provides special programs and events throughout the year to educate members about the arts. FAB also works in partnership with other funders in the public and private sectors to increase awareness of and support for the arts. There also are social events to encourage meeting new people and sharing arts experiences.
There are several committees with opportunities to volunteer within the FAB organization depending upon the member’s interests and time commitment. Volunteering is optional, not required to be a FAB member.
In 2022, FAB embarked on a capital campaign with the goal of raising $3 million in new support for the arts. To date, more than $2.3 million has been raised with donations of more than 100 individual donors, foundations and businesses. The campaign has four goals: increase grants support to local arts organizations serving Broward County; build greater impact through new initiatives and funding partnerships; invest in FAB’s organization and capacity to support grantees; create an endowment at the Community Foundation of Broward,
FAB is governed by a volunteer board of directors elected by the membership on rotating terms with term limits. The board annually chooses its officers and committee chairs. The board meets monthly and reviews financial and operations on an ongoing basis. It provides an annual impact report to all members and the community at large.
