As a valued supporter of the arts in Broward County, we are excited to share with you the fantastic programs and initiatives that have been made possible through the generous funding provided by the Funding Arts Broward (FAB) organization. Below is a comprehensive summary listing of each program FAB is funding for the 2025 program year. Each allocation was made possible by the contributions of FAB members, “Be the Spark” campaign supporters, FAB’s allied foundations and corporate partners.

2025 Visual and Performing Arts FAB Grants
Art and Culture Center/Hollywood $12,500
The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood will partner with Aldeide Delgado, founder of the Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA), on a group exhibition of contemporary women artists primarily based in South Florida. “Women Photographers” (working title) will reflect Delgado’s curatorial mission to create a place for photography in South Florida. “

Art Prevails Project $5,000
Art Prevails Project presents Calliope, a season of original theatrical work. The season includes the original play, “Seeking”, written and directed by Darius V. Daughtry, “The Happening: A Theatrical Mixtape”, an annual multidisciplinary production that explores relevant societal issues, and “Of House and Home”, a new initiative that will commission original short plays exploring the concepts of place and home through the unique voices of diverse playwrights.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida $11,000
“Petrouchka” takes place at a Russian fair in 1830. Gypsies and dancing girls entertain the crowd. Drums announce the appearance of the Old Charlatan, who charms the captivated audience by introducing the puppet figures of Petrouchka, the Ballerina, and the Moor. The puppets come to life, leap from their little stage, and perform a vigorous dance among the astounded carnival-goers. The ballet will be included in a show tribute to Stravinsky.

ArtServe $3,000
ArtServe’s program consists of an Opening Night Reception of a curated art exhibition, live music, a comedian, and a panel discussion, which focuses on the use of the “Arts” as tools in fostering mental health and healing. The art chosen for this exhibit will all fit in the mental wellness category. The art exhibition will be open to the public for two months.

ArtsUnited $5,000
“Celebrating Diversity”, a performing arts series, features three concerts showcasing artists from the LGBTQ+ Community. The first will include local male and female singers and musicians from a variety of nationalities. The second ensemble will be comprised of three black singers and a pianist. The third concert will feature recording artist David Archuleta of American Idol fame in celebration of our diverse community.

Brazilian Voices $7,500
“Quiet Bossa – Jazz 4 All” and “Ella Jazz Across Cultures” will encompass three musical performances: Two one-hour sensory-inclusive musical performances of “Quiet Bossa – Jazz 4 All,” is designed especially for children and adults with differing abilities or on the autism spectrum, but open to the general public. And a 90-minute musical performance highlighting the interwoven history of Brazilian and American Jazz in a modern format, both entertaining and informative.

Broward Center for the Performing Arts $10,000
The Broward Center will present MOMIX in their newest exciting creation, ALICE. MOMIX’s internationally acclaimed dancer-illusionists conjure the magical world of the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, and Queen of Hearts in this stunning reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s novel. The presentation will feature two dynamic evening performances for the public and one school-day performance offered at no charge for students from Broward County Public Schools.

Broward County Film Society $8,000
“Get In the Picture” will feature an eclectic program of motion pictures that will speak to, engage and foster dialog among underserved members of the Broward community who would otherwise feel excluded. Six matinees and six evening shows, alternating once a month throughout the year, along with a soft drink and bag of popcorn, will be offered free of charge. Following the film, the filmmaker will engage the audience in a question-and-answer session.

Dance NOW! Miami $10,000
“POP”, a new choreographic work by Diego Salterini for Dance NOW! Miami’s 10 professional dancers, will explore allegories of coming of age, love, despair, joy for life, death and more. The work will be danced to popular tunes from the 80s and 90s, reimagined by long time musical collaborator, Davidson Jaconello. “POP” will offer a profoundly joyful head bopping experience.

Embrace Music Foundation $5,000
Rhythms of Africa is a musical journey describing the movement of ancient rhythms sprung from the souls of vibrant cultures and carried by hand and heart from Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas. Deploying the arts, our program challenges children to recognize, channel, and direct their creativity. The show pairs students, most musical novices, with professional musicians

Fantasy Theatre Factory $11,000
Event-1: Get HAPPY at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. FTF’s Healing-Arts-Performance-Program-for-Youth (HAPPY) will serve hospitalized children/families/staff. FTF’s innovative program features shows/character interactions with patients/parents/visitors, and lightens the seriousness of hospitalization, gives creative-support, adds laughter to elevate the spirit, and provides moments of healing through art. Event-2: Family Enrichment Series Featuring “Cinderella, A Fractured Fairy Tale” and “Little Monster Tales” are designed to be intergenerational affairs, bringing together families for a memorable, fun theatrical experience.

Florida Children’s Theatre $12,000
The 2024 Spring Series will consist of one Circus Troupe production and one Family Series production performed over the course of one to two weekends. Performances are open to the general public, with additional dedicated field trip opportunities for schools. Titles will be announced this summer, but it is currently expected that the Family Series show will be Finding Nemo, Jr. or a similar family-friendly musical. The Circus production is a Cirque-du-Soleil style original piece.

Florida Grand Opera $12,500
La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini is a story of struggling bohemians – a poet, a painter, a musician, and philosopher living together during the burgeoning bohemian art scene of 1850’s Paris. It is power-packed with romance, characters, fun, strife, and ultimate tragedy. Puccini showcases the stark contrasts between wealth and poverty, art and commerce, showing us that reaching for your dreams is not void of obstacles but worth it nonetheless.

Florida Singing Sons $10,000
The 2024 Spring Pops Concert will be the culminating outlet of artistic and professional achievement for the year. Attendees will embark on a journey across a broad color spectrum representing the FSS choristers’ trek through a wide variety of musical genres and styles. The program begins with some beloved standards from the choral repertoire and additional selections that will be performed during our Summer Tour. The second half of the program will feature a semi-staged Broadway Medley with songs from a variety of shows.

Florida Youth Orchestra $10,000
The annual Family Spotlight Concert is themed “Classical Works of African American Composers”. The concert, in honor of Black History month, is a community music event helping to bring a source of pride for residents, young musicians and attendees alike, that also increases their sense of connection to their community. GRAMMY-award winner Nestor Torres, flute is the FYO Artist in Residence and will accompany the symphony orchestra in a dazzling display of musicianship.

Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida $9,000
With a theatrical plot line that weaves together iconic songs from the 1960s to the present, “Generations of Pride” is a funny and sometimes poignant look at the things that make the age groups in our community different, but also the many things we have in common. This unique concert illuminates how differences can be strengths and how we can use that strength to stand proudly as LGBTQ+ people. To continue our commitment to bringing new work to life, we will be commissioning two or three original compositions for this concert.

Gold Coast Jazz Society $7,500
The 2024 Jazz Project will feature four jazz concerts and one free community jazz performance. All of these artists are recognized world-wide in the genre of jazz. Proposed artists for this project will include the jazz pianist/composer/arranger, Shelly Berg and his trio; the renowned jazz guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli, the rising star jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimee with her quartet and the rising jazz star, saxophonist Grace Kelly, with her quartet. This project will also include a free community jazz outreach concert featuring GCJS musicians.

Hued Songs $11,000
A multidisciplinary function, “A Soulful Christmas” is a holiday celebration for all, featuring music, storytelling, and community. The concert will center on the re-telling of the classic story, The Night Before Christmas, with a local and cultural twist. Audience members will take a musical journey through decades of iconic music that has shaped the sounds of Black Christmas- ranging from gospel, spirituals, soul, and everything in between. Led by a diverse cast of locally based artists, this concert will take place at The African American Research Library and Cultural Center.

Inside Out Theatre $8,750
“Journey to the Past & to the Heart” focuses on the importance of community, the search for identity, themes of life, love and loss, and will be explored in Inside Out Theatre’s performances of “Anastasia the Musical” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods”. Lectures and other outreach activities will accompany the productions to help engage audiences and build community. The program will also include lectures on Russia, a costume contest for audience members and additional activities to engage the community.

Jazz Education Community Coalition (JECC) $5,000
“Groovin’ On A Sunday” is an annual performance opportunity for youth engaged in JECC’s mentorship / Jazz Bootcamp. Funds will be used to cover production costs and artist fees. The JECC ensemble will perform along with several other youth and community-based groups at The Circuit.

Master Chorale of South Florida $10,000
The grand finale of its 2023-2024 season will be Mendelssohn’s monumental oratorio “Elijah”. Elijah depicts significant events in the prophet’s life with scenes set in the dramatic fashion typical of large-scale works from the 19th century. With eight vocal soloists, full symphony orchestra, and a massive chorus, this epic masterpiece will wow South Florida audiences.

Miami City Ballet $11,000
Exciting “Program 2” will celebrate the rich, multi-generational talent of ballet’s contemporaneous choreographers and its history-makers, including two separate Miami City Ballet (MCB) exclusive commissions from recent MCB School students and up-and-coming choreographers, Margarita Armas and Durante Verzola. Program 2 also revisits the 21st century reimagining of George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins’s “Firebird” and Alexei Ratmansky’s playful Concerto DSCH. Alexei Ratmansky’s Concerto DSCH is a playful romp through Dmitri Shostakovich’s bright score and is full of ingenuity and stylishness.

New City Players $11,000
The new play, “1,000 Miles” by South Florida playwright Vanessa Garcia, follows the story of Solis, who has just arrived in The City from 1000 Miles Across the Sea after escaping a stricken homeland. She’s searching for family and for a way to carve out a new life. “1,000 Miles” is about what it means to migrate to a new place; it’s about survival, surveillance, nationalism, and the nature of opportunity. About the walls that block our path and the new doors we try to open to save ourselves and those we love. This moving play offers powerful insight into the immigrant experience,

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale $10,500
“Walasse Ting: Parrot Jungle” is the first U.S. retrospective of Shanghai-born Walasse Ting (1928-2010), whose paintings fused Chinese calligraphy with post-war European and American abstract painting and the irony of Pop Art. His frequent sojourns to Florida produced vivid, lush scenes of historic Parrot Jungle in Coconut Grove. This exhibition presents Ting as a global artist ahead of his time, whose multicultural existence was at odds with art history’s prevailing narrow categorization of artists by nationality and style.

OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival (Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival) $9,000
The 16th Annual OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival — Ft. Lauderdale Edition will offer an inspiring, thought-provoking, and entertaining selection of 50+ of the newest and best LGBTQ+-oriented cinema including a wide array of feature films, documentaries, and shorts. The 10-day festival offers Q&As and forums with directors, actors, and writers, special events, and more ancillary activities.

Plays Of Wilton $5,200
“A Shonda” by Wendy Graf is a play about two men, a Hasidic Jew and a Southern Baptist cowboy who struggle to reconcile their faith and family with their sexuality. Poetic and lyrical, the play is a beautiful exploration of religious and sexual identity, clashing cultures, loyalty, hopes and dreams, parental bonds and attendant feelings of safety or threat; a plea for understanding and tolerance. But mostly “A Shonda” is about communication and unconditional love.

Seraphic Fire $8,000
Two back-to-back weeks of programming will focus on composers of the Enlightenment era and their impact on music history. The first festival concert will explore the music of father and son Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti and their influence on Baroque music in Naples, Italy. The festival continues with a concert inspired by Haydn’s visit with Admiral Lord Nelson and the soprano Lady Emma Hamilton, with works like the “Nelson” Mass and the song, “The Battle of the Nile.” The Seraphic Fire professional ensemble will be joined by students from the UCLA Ensemble Artist Program and chamber orchestra.

‘The Prom: The Musical’ is a winner of Drama Desk Award for Best New Musical. Four Broadway stars hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom; they know that it’s time to highlight the issue. “The Tortured Artist” is a concert series dedicated to improving mental health using music therapy, sound therapy, and historical health records of composers. Each musical program will focus on a specific mental health issue. Each also contains a diverse set of composers including composers with disabilities, BIPOC composers and also includes diverse music including classical, jazz, musical theater, blues, rock, pop, indigenous music and more.

South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble $10,000
The incomparable comedian, jazz singer, and actor Lea DeLaria will emcee and sing several selections with the Pride Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble and share some of her hilarious comedic moments. Most recently, Mrs. DeLaria played the role of Carrie “Big Boo” Black in the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.”

South Florida Symphony Orchestra /SFSO $8,500
‘Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra” by German composer Max Bruch (1838-1920) bristles with the snap and lilt of Scottish folk songs, so beautifully and brilliantly orchestrated. Each of its four movements tells a story. Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5” is unified through repeated reference to a “fate theme,” announced by the somber clarinets at the outset. And yet, shafts of sunlight appear with hopeful secondary melodies. Guest Artist, Huifang Chen is the SFSO Concertmaster as well as an international violin soloist.

Symphony of the Americas $9,500
“Rhapsody in Blue – The French Connection” explores the musical and cultural connections and influences of American and French composers, and interweaves 100 years of composition. From Camille Saint-Saens, one of the last great orchestra composers of the traditional “Germanic style,” to Ravel, who modernizes classical music, and Gershwin, who created a new sound rooted in the jazz idiom, these three masters represent the “old and the new world” of music

The Fort Lauderdale Children’s Ballet Theatre $7,500
“Coppélia” will showcase the professional and artistic achievements of over 100 young ballet dancers in our community, age 5-18. The 90-minute classical ballet, with original music by Delibes, is a transformational experience for children and families to have in an accessible, delightful way. Renowned for making lasting first-impressions on first-time theater goers, FLCBT captures the imaginations of diverse audiences and brings classical ballet to everyone.

The Girl Choir of South Florida $8,000
“Birdsong” is a celebration of the first musicians in nature and their roles in poetry and literature. Crowing at dawn, hooting at the moon, and cawing at one another, birds have inspired humans since prehistoric times and continue to call us even now to slow down and recognize the beauty of the natural world. Selections include “Cuckoo” from Benjamin Britten’s Friday Afternoons and the Beatles’ “Blackbird”, as well as pieces with metaphorical birds.

Thinking Cap Theatre $8,000
The regional premiere of LOVESONG, a formally experimental and emotionally riveting play, is by playwright/screenwriter Abi Morgan. The play imaginatively and grippingly explores major themes inherent to the human condition, including the intricacies of long-term love, the highs and lows that couples must endure if they are to grow together gracefully, and mortality. TCT’s production will honor the play’s original production values with its own stunning, in-house projection design and choreography.

Venetian Arts Society, GENVAS $7,000
Emmanuel “Manny” Vass is a Pakistani – Filipino Englishman known as the “Naked Pianist” because his artistry strips away the rules of classical music, making his American debut in his “Bach to Bond” concert. The concert includes Morton Gould’s “Boogie Woogie Etude”, Bach’s “Italian Concerto”, Beethoven’s “Sonata Op 27 No. 2”, “Malaguena” by Leuona, Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” and “Love Walked In”, James Bond Concert Etude featuring Manny’s own arrangement of classic Bond film themes, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.

2025 FAB Education Grants
Art and Culture Center/Hollywood $7,500
“Summer Arts Outreach” will provide K-12 youth and summer field-trip groups with an interactive arts-education experience during the Center’s visual-arts exhibition, “Animals.” From domestic household pets to the wild and sometimes invasive species populating our surrounding environment, this kid-friendly exhibition looks at the animals around us and how human interaction plays a role in their endangerment and survival. “Animals” will be presented through a variety of artforms, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, and video.

Art Prevails Project $10,000
“Write it Out” is a culturally relevant creative writing program to be offered in parks, community spaces and schools. Teaching artists will provide direct instruction in the writing and presentation of poetry, monologues, plays and screenplays. Participants will have opportunities to present their work in both printed form such as poetry chapbook and online magazines, and in presentations such as performances and play readings.

Broward Center For the Performing Arts $8,000
The Broward Center will partner with Music Theatre International (MTI) to develop and implement a pilot production of a musical featuring Broward County students. Students will participate in weekly workshops that provide top-tier professional instruction in musical theater skills, including singing, acting and dancing, and offer hands-on insight into the process of developing a show. The project will culminate in two public performances in the Amaturo Theater, giving students the unique opportunity to perform on a world-class stage with a professional crew.

Fantasy Theatre Factory $8,000
“Bringing Books to Children” will reach 4,500+ under-served pre-kindergarten through second graders in 22 elementary schools in Broward County. The project begins with a performance of the literacy-incentive play, “Gordon Gumshoe, Fairy Tale Detective” at each school. Comprehensive study-guides are provided for all teachers. After the show every child participates.

Florida Children’s Theatre $10,000
“The Film Academy at FLCT” is an arts education program providing personal and professional development for middle and high school students. Through workshops, hands-on artistic/technical training, and film festivals, participants will learn every aspect of television and film production on and off camera. It creates pathways to college and to high-paying career tracks through cutting edge “hard skill training” while simultaneously developing the soft skills of leadership, teamwork, and communication.

Gold Coast Jazz Society $3,000
The Gold Coast Jazz Society will provide live presentations of the jazz education program, “JazzSLAM” (Jazz Supports Language Arts & Math), in Broward County Public Elementary Schools from January 2024 through May of 2024. JazzSLAM is provided at no cost to each participating elementary school. It is targeted to 4th and 5th grade students and includes a one-hour, live and interactive jazz presentation with a professional jazz quartet.

Master Chorale of South Florida $5,000
“Beethoven 4 Kids “will be presented as part of the popular free Family Concerts and will continue the tradition of providing interactive educational talks about a specific composer and their work. These short matinee performances are designed to expose underserved families to the joys of classical vocal and orchestral music by making it entertaining, accessible, and understandable. Seraphic Fire $ 7,500
The Seraphic Fire Youth Initiative consists of two parts: two education concerts and three in-school workshops. Workshops are themed around a musical genre and students learn concepts around rhythm, music history, and vocal technique. The program culminates in education concerts attended by students from throughout the district in December and May.

South Florida Pride Youth Ensemble $9,000
The Youth Pride Band is an annual honor band-styled program that brings LGBTQ students and their allies together from all over South Florida. This creates a safe space for these LGBTQ and straight students and LGBTQ adult musicians to come together, create friendships, and commune in an intensified way that only music can provide. Students and mentors are given opportunities to have discussions about bullying and supporting each other.

Young At Art $3,000
YAA “Guest Artist At Work “Series enables emerging and established visual artists to share their artistic business strategies through artistic research, demonstrations, and workshops. The Series will focus on how artists from different cultural backgrounds strike a balance between art and business.
